Eastern Meadowlark |
Today the plan was a drive into the mountains, well volcanoes. And pass a pass between the mostly dormant volcanoes. The plan was to stop and view some Hummers and others on the Pacific slope foothills before passing the pass and visiting some wetter and foggier forests on the Caribbean side.
We had a couple of stops each side and both produced new species of Hummingbirds.
The pinnacle of the day was lunch, or more correctly, the location for lunch as it was a full time feast for frugivorous birds as it was for the hummingbirds there too!
This post will document some of the species seen pre-lunch where as the next one will focus on the feeders.
The first main stop was an area of flowers which was successful in dragging down out of the trees a few species of Hummingbird.
Leaving the first flower patch and the four species of Hummingbird sighted there; Volcano, Scintillant,
We stopped for a pretty charismatic mammal; White nosed Coati[mundi]. Apparently they are fed.... and so are more than approachable,
